I'm now playing the Bands Under The Radar podcast - and 8PM Monday through Friday and at 9PM on Saturday and Sunday.

Today we went back to cable after satellite and DSL turned out to be a disaster. So I reinstated the UPLOAD feature, because I think it should work again. So I'm very happy I've got internet SPEED again. DSL just didn't work well here. I also got rid of Dr. Auratheft playing at midnight, because I've found that it's not always good sleeping music for me hehehe.

Well not much new is happening, but I did noticed today that requests weren't working so I had to contact my web hosting company about that. It seems like every so often they change something that kills the requests. So that's back. It would be really cool if someone would let me know when stuff stops working...

Also I scrapped the old request shows that I was trying to play. My radio program just can't handle the huge screwed up files that the joiner program creates. So I haven't come up with another way to play these shows. Not that anyone cares, but I find them amusing to listen to. Maybe someday they'll reappear.

Here's a nice new picture of the WFZR 89.1 FM antenna - taken today. We get a lot of rainbows up here.

I just changed from cable to DSL and it's been driving me crazy. I'm not happy with it but it looks like I'm stuck with it. It caused some difficulties with some functions (like requests and ftp) but seems to be OK now. Not sure if the stream is still working well for everyone. I hope it is. There's a chance we'll be going back to cable, but probably not.

edit - seems like everything is pretty much back to normal. (3/14/09)

Back in 2003 and/or 2004 (I don't remember exactly when) I used to do a request show where people would go to my website and post requests on my message board and I'd find the songs and play them on Sundays (and repeat them other days). It was called "Sunday Night Requests" and it was wildly popular with like 5 or so people. I enjoyed doing it, even though I'm certainly no DJ and my announcements were pretty bad most of the time.

Anyway - I saved all of the files from those shows, and with this special program I found that joins mp3s into larger mp3s, I finally have a way to play these old shows. Why do it? Just for the hell of it. The music is good. So I'll be adding these shows to the mix. They'll play when the L.P. Album things play and during the Dr. Auratheft times (to give him a rest now and again hehehe).

It takes some time for me to get the files created, so I'll be adding them a little at a time. There were 18 real shows, and a few special ones that I did when it was a slow week for requests. They may not play that often, but it might be cool (or embarrassing for me) when they do.

Added a message box thing on the site. Just trying it out right now. Leave a message. I also changed the way the play history displays. I got tired of seeing the station Id's in the list so I made it so they don't show up. I'm sure no one cares about which Id played when. Now it's just music and other stuff. I think it's better. I also whipped up and added some new stupid id's.

Added nearly 500 tracks to the playlist today - all downloaded from Pitchforkmedia.com. I have no idea what they're all like, but the idea is to get a surprise. When I hear something that seems truly awful, I remove it.

I've been noticing lately requests being made, but no one online listening. I don't understand this. Unless there is someone locally listening to 89.1 FM on the radio. That would be cool. If that's the case, please email me and let me know. Otherwise - why? Email me to answer that question too. godrex@wfzr.net

A few days ago I had some problems with my external hard drive and had to go off the air for a couple of days. I got it all fixed and made some back ups of the audio files. Should be good for a while now, until something else dies. That's what happens with computers - parts die. I've also had some database problems and other things effecting the performance of the music computer. Hopefully interruptions will be at a minimum now.

I also decided to take the opportunity of having downtime to change the programing a bit. I wanted to go back to the idea of a no format type station. I removed all the special genre times and the Frank Zappa hours. I'm sorry if this bothers anyone, but it's for my enjoyment. I'll see how I like things the way the are now. I'll probably keep changing things around over time. I also changed when some of the Dr. Auratheft mixes play, as well as when some "long playing" albums and/or mixes play. I added some more times for the SubGenius Hour of Slack. Check the "Schedule Grid" to see what's happening when on WFZR. Also I've made it so requests are available much more often. And finally, Xmas/holiday music is playing near the 10 and 40 every hour when no special shows are playing (except after a long show). On Christmas I'll probably play more of this music during that day, then it will go away for another year, thankfully.
