WFZR About

I used to work as an engineer for a bunch of radio stations. Problem was I couldn't stand listening to any of them. There really aren't any radio stations in my area that I can stand, so in 1998 decided to make my own. I was inspired by the computer systems where I worked and figured I could do something similar. I did, and I've been on the air since the spring of 1999, 24/7. I decided to call the station WFZR because I'm a big fan of Frank Zappa and I felt that there should be a station dedicated to playing his music. Over time I began to include my entire CD collection in the playlist and also music I've gotten online (from sites like Pitchforkmedia.com and Killrockstars.com). I'm constantly looking for music to increase the variety of the station's playlist. So besides the Zappa, I play a wide variety of music and occasionally some special radio shows.

In May 2002 I began broadcasting my radio station on the internet (thanks to a friend with access to a server and a fast internet connection). So now if you don't live near me you can still hear my favorite music (hey I can't please everyone).

90.7 FM in Stroudsburg moved and became 89.1 FM in the West End (of Monroe County PA) on June 6th 2004. The signal is getting out further than ever before and the internet streaming is still running. With the new frequency came new station id's. And many new artists and songs were added to the playlist.

dumb facts:

The station came back on the air on 6/6/2004 (2 + 4 = 6) - - and the frequency became 89.1 (8 + 9 + 1 = 18, 18 / 3 = 6)

The transmitter sits on a Ouija board.

The transmiter has 1 watt of power, but since the coax is kind of long it probably loses about half that before it gets to the antenna.

The main playlist has nearly 10,000 entries.
