Even all the small roles are played by great actors. Julianne Moore has a tiny, fun cameo. Winona Ryder was hilarious. A few of my laugh out loud moments came from her kind of pathetic character. http://maureenmcgowan.blo...e-lives-of-pippa-lee.htmlMiller has assembled an incredible support cast—and it’s a testament to the material when Julianne Moore will show up for five minutes as a boho lesbian photographer—that includes Shirley Knight, Winona Ryder (taking a page from the Streep playbook and doing more adventurous things as she gets older) http://www.thecoast.ca/Ha...ff-day-5-pip-pippa-hoorayHe gives the film a sense of energy that’s matched by Winona Ryder’s best friend character, who is coolly dispatched by Penn later in the film as the film effortlessly flips from comedy to drama and back again. http://www.indielondon.co...lives-of-pippa-lee-review

The present-tense Pippa is brilliantly portrayed by Robin Wright Penn, who does a remarkable job of containing herself around others while also exposing fragments of her true self for the camera alone. The way director and star collaborate here is a wonder in itself, as is the performance Miller gets out of the top-of-his-game Alan Arkin, here playing Pippa’s much older husband. But the film still suffers somewhat from the neglect of supporting characters—Winona Ryder’s part is a comic shambles, Maria Bello’s is gravely overwrought—and a glib finale that promises freedom without complication. It reaffirms that I’ll happily watch anything Miller does, but I’m still holding out for something from her that takes this refreshing approach to character and pushes it to its fullest extent. Watch for an odd little cameo from Princeton philosopher Cornell West. http://thephantomcountry....clearly-and-to-do-so.html

Winona Ryder, so deserving of a return to lead roles to match her talent, has a few hilarious scenes of extreme misery as Pippa's poetic friend http://www.thecoast.ca/Ha...lives-worth-a-public-view

Okay, well, I couldn’t wait all the way until the end of November and so I wound up breaking down and just watching it. Overall, I think the film was pretty good, not boring at all, performances were all solid, (with the exception of Keanu, but that’s always a given) especially from Robin Wright Penn and Maria Bello! I’d also say this film is probably Winona’s best within the last few years. As a whole, it is certainly much more watchable than her last few films. My only issue is that she does not get nearly enough screen time- only about 10-15 mins -total! However, every scene Sandra Dulles appears, your attention is immediately drawn to her. I'd say Winona definitely steals every scene she’s in. My favorite scene with Winona comes towards the end… you’ll know what I mean when you guys see it… Winona was right, Sandra is such a mess!

I watched it and liked it. Still, it seemed like there was a lot that couldn't be covered well enough in a movie. I watched this video of Rebecca Miller reading from the book and it seemed a lot more interesting. http://bigthink.com/rebec...rivate-lives-of-pippa-lee
