Squirrels - Mother & Baby Reunion
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/NtvnWEHCqBA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/NtvnWEHCqBA</a>

yesterday I  found a small baby squirrel in my backyard.

first i heard a faint squeak, i thoight it must be some bird, then heard it two more times.
me & my bro ran out to see what it was, then we found this little guy.

fearing he might get eaten by the cat, i kept him in my "Fish Hospital Tank"  (dry , obviously  Tongue)

today morning at around 6.30am, i left him near the place where i found him.

the mother squirrel came back & took her baby with her. Smiley

went thru these sites -
http://www.squirrelsandmo...aring-a-baby-squirrel.htm [very helpful site]
http://www.squirreltales.org
http://www.orphanedwildli...care.com/squirrelcare.htm

Quote
What to do first:
Try to reunite the baby or babies with their mom. If you think the mother squirrel may still be in the area and you have a good idea where the nest is that the babies came from, you can give the mother the opportunity to retrieve the babies.

...

If the babies are warm and healthy and there is a good chance that the mother may still be in the area, we recommend giving her about 2 hours to come back for the babies. If she has not come for them within the 2-hour time frame, then she probably won’t come for them.

Place the babies in a box. You can place this box near the tree or area they came from. Make sure that the babies can’t get out of the box but the mother will be able to get in and get the babies. If the babies still have their eyes closed, they will need a heat source to help them keep warm. Even on hot summer days baby squirrels can get chilled quickly. A soda bottle filled with hot water and covered with a sock can be placed near the babies. Test to be sure the temperature isn’t too hot, and place a tee-shirt around it to be sure it doesn’t roll onto the babies.

Supervise the reunion attempt carefully but from a distance. Make sure the babies are safe from natural predators such as cats, dogs, hawks, crows, and snakes. But you must also remain out of mom's sight, so that she feels safe coming for the babies.

If the babies are found just before dark, DO NOT place them out for mom. She won’t be moving after dark. You can put them out in place as soon as the sun is up in the morning. If she is in the area she will start looking for them then.

OK how uncomfortable does Lil look in the first picture?  laugh

Lilly has never liked the boys - but because Aidan loves dogs so much and was sad that she was grouchy he decided to feed her and give her treats and ever walk her a few times and he actually won her over. She's still kind of grouchy to them sometimes, but she's not nasty like she had been in the past. I'm very proud of him. We've noticed that more so than his older brother, he has a strong love for animals, especially dogs.

In the 2nd one she looks a little more normal. laugh

Peg I thought you might like to see this since you knew some of my concerns about Lilly. I wanted to give her away more than once.

2 years ago ,at work ,we've been 'given' a little bird with no tail...a cat probably tried to eat him & he lost his tail in the fight... we didn't know what to do but we [of course] kept him & fed him with worms/fruits&special mix for little wild birds ...he staied with us from sept 2009 to end of march 2010 ...we set him free at work... when Laurent & i moved in our appartment he's been the 1st animal to come..cats arrived a bit later...
with no tail(a big fat juicy worm at his feet):

after few months(in a big brand new cage):

we bought him a big cage+a small wood house+several small-small bowl for seeds,water,dry/fresh fruits +fresh worms every week...his name was Mr Piou...

@corky... Your bird looks like a robin. I'm glad you were able to save it.
