What a great kid.
.
She is a great kid.
Thanks for the Father's Day wishes.
In July of 2001 I was working on a job in a tony neighborhood,
the house was surfaced with a rare type of mahogany and I
was trying to restore the siding.
It was a pain in the ass.
The owner was a "Blockbuster" movie distribution widow who's husband had
chains in many states. He was in on the beginning
and she was left counting the money.
Oh,she detested the working class and I was forever a thorn in her side.
"He dosen't know what he is doing."
The first day I was there I was operating machinery and didn't hear my cell phone ringing.
Patrice found the job site, my mother knew the area I was working in and let Patrice know
the vicinity.
"There is a girl," Patrice said, "She is three weeks old and abandoned at the hospital."
"Her mother is from Thailand, she is homeless and she has syphilis. The girl has syphilis."
The only thing I knew about syphilis was that Al Capone died from the disease.
I wasn't enthused, Asian, homeless, and carrying syphilis, sounded like a recipe for an abortion.
I am not saying that I am an exceptional man.
You probably wouldn't like me.
I can almost guarentee it.
Don't care about the latest Winona photo op.
Oops.
But there was a look in my wife's eye.
If there is anything grand to be said about me, it is that I married well, and that
I am trainable.
We brought her home that afternoon and there was never a doubt that she was our daughter.
I am a father because an Angel convinced a diseased Birth Mother to have a child, because of a good government agency doing its job,and because of Patrice's faith.
I love being a father but I owe the honor of parenthood to a diligent fanatic ,the workings of society, modern medicine, and the belief of a great woman, more than I do incidental sperm.
And my sperm has always been so incidental.
Hoo! Look out!
There it is again!
Great luck to my daughter.
Not cooking anything Father's Day, just spending time.
