Well, because I am old  and at the nexus of  deterioration and expansion,( God is a sick bastard.),it  is better that I talk about food rather than actually eat same.

The weather around here has been wonderful, which means, cookout.

Today I marinated chicken breast in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and spices.

I placed the breasts in a charcoal smoker infused with Hickory wood chips and let sit for
1 and 1/2 hours.

I then grilled the chicken, added a homemade sweet barbecue sauce, and then  removed a charred yet succulent
breast.

At the same time, I sauted sliced green and red peppers, sliced Vidallia onion and fresh garlic in olive oil ,
 butter and  fresh basil.

I shredded the chicken, placed it on a Kaiser Roll, topped it with the saute and freshly shredded
Asiago cheese.

Served it with homemade coleslaw and roasted red potatoes with rosemary and butter.

Washed it down with a cold beer.

My daughter had Kraft Macaroni and Geez.

Funny!  Sounds delicious.

As I’ve gotten older I found that beyond “you are what you eat” – food has a lot to do with wisdom; and I’m still learning...

So, Food.
What did you make?

A thousand words is worth a picture.

I love reading about food.

I want to hear about everyone's food.

What do you like to make?

basmati rice + olive oil add water + indian spices (1spoon curcuma/1 spoon paprika/1 spoon garam massala/2spoons very mild red pepper)...you add few vegetables(green peas/carrotts/haricots )....and let  cook very slowly for something like 10/15 minutes...add water if necessary...

Well I made marinated Portabello mushroom slices - I made a chipotle/garlic/tomato/lime "sauce" to cook them in. Also sauteed some peppers and onions.

Made brown rice and red lentils - - and mixed in some sweet corn and black beans - - mixed that together and served it with fresh chopped tomatos on top. Little sea salt and Mrs. Dash Southwesten Chipotle spices and some fresh lime

it all looked and tasted fantastic

had some tequila and some Corona with lime... Cheers

My cooking is a bit of an embarrassment (more like eagle-rare’s daughter’s taste: Kraft Mac and Cheese)—but my favorite sandwich to make: Dark rye bread + Tomatoes, Sprouts, Cream Cheese, Avocado, Bacon, and some sort of Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise.  Highly recommended. Tongue

Great recipes,guys. Thank you.

Am I the only carnivore in the herd?

Corky, rice is a staple I usually have a rice or pasta dish for breakfast.
Your recipe sounds delicious. I'll give it a try.

Gary, love fresh mushrooms, hunting them, preparing them, eating them.
And you can't go wrong with tequila. Well, you can,but so much fun doing so.

J.D., Kraft Geez, really? How can you eat anything that color?
I am a sandwich fanatic and yours sounds delightful.
Give me a Reuben or a Muffletta and I'll purr for the rest of the day.
I admit to never trying sprouts, but I'm game.
You could put bacon, cream cheese and mayonaise on grass and I'd eat it.
Are you from California? I lived in Ojai for a bit in the 1980's and avocado was a staple.

Saturday is cook day and today I am making three types of ravioli.
One which is new to me and made with  radicchio, red onion, red wine and mascarpone filling.
I'll serve them with melted butter, salt and parmasean.
Along with the ravioli we'll have skillet prepared chicken pieces cooked with onion,
fresh sage and rosemary, olive oil and Pinot Grigio. Fresh lemon squeezed over top.

The second ravioli is an experiment. Ricotta, Parmasean and Romano cheeses with spinach, pine nuts and nutmeg.
I'll put those in the freezer until I can decide how to serve them.

The third is for my daughter, a three cheese and spinach ravioli.
She actually likes my homemade sauce and meatballs so I will serve her that with  the pasta.

Saturday night is for Bourbon sipping and I have a brand new bottle of Buffalo Trace to sample.

By the by, my birthday is approaching and if you guys would like to chip in for a bottle of
Pappy Van Winkles Family Reserve 23 year old Bourbon, feel free.
Last I checked it ran about 300 dollars a bottle.

One of these days.

I’m from Eugene, Oregon, not California... but I’m sure some of my avocados come from down south.

I’m mostly a vegetarian... eat meat like a spice rather than a staple... but I used to love Reuben sandwiches too back in college.

The Ravioli sounds great... although I had a bad experience with nutmeg, also back in college, when I found out it was hallucinogenic.  Upchucked in a dazzling but confused array of colors.

That must have been a lot of nutmeg.

How do people discover these thigs?

That's cool.
May I ask why you chose to be a vegan?
If you prefer not to answer, that is fine.

I have a niece who follows the Paleolithic Diet regimen, also known as the Caveman Diet.
She's pretty thin, but I imagine it is difficult to find a dinosaur, let alone take one down.

I'm a vegetarian. I sometimes eat food that has egg whites in it, if it's hard to avoid. I also eat wild Alaskan salmon sometimes (once a week or so).

Same question to you as Corky.
Why did you become a vegetarian?
If it is none of my business, I can live with it.

Pardon the stereotyping, but what I like about
the vegetarians I've met is their great respect for
food and cooking.
I don't remember having a bad experience eating meals
that my vegetarian friends have cooked.

Food and cooking fascinates me and I wonder why people choose what they eat.
