So...

"Watersone gets started with The Stare, a drama in which a playwright (Ryder) finds her mind beginning to warp as she struggles to launch her next production. She's plagued by dreams and visions of being watched, but can't decide if she's at the center of a manipulative plot or simply losing her grip on reality. Franco plays one of the performers in the playwright's production. The film will shoot May 6 in New York."

Kind of Black Swan-ish? Nice that she has the lead role though. Can't wait to hear more about it. Smiley

 James Franco and Winona Ryder cast in 'The Stare'

Relaxnews - Wednesday, 20 April 2011

James Franco (Your Highness) and Winona Ryder (Black Swan) have signed on for the psychological thriller The Stare.

The story follows a playwright whose mind is doing tricks on her when she stages a new production. She's unsure if she is paranoid or if her visions of being watched are a plot. Franco portrays an actor in her theatrical production.

The Stare is directed by Jay Anania, who worked with Franco on Shadows & Lies, an independent drama released last year. The production company, Waterstone Entertainment, also plans two projects produced by Franco, including one he will direct, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Franco will next be seen in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the prequel to the Planet of the Apes series from the 1960s and '70s, co-starring Frieda Pinto and Andy Serkis.

In another origin story redo, Franco will next shoot Oz the Great and Powerful with director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man series) and costars Mila Kunis and Blake Lively.

Ryder, recently seen in Black Swan, will lend her voice to Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, an animated story based on the director's short film about a pet dog who is hit by a car and brought back to life as a monster.

The Stare is set to start production in May for release in 2012.

This sounds like a good project. Hopefully Winona will get more screen time in this than she did in Black Swan.

I've been reading a bit about James Franco. He hosted the Oscars this year, and was nominated for 127 Hours. He is originally from Northern California. He sounds like a good person to be starring with.  The director is Elizabeth Edwards brother. I'm a little concerned that he hasn't had any big hits in the past. When you are working with somebody like Aronofsky you can be fairly confident that the film is going to be good because he has done such good stuff in the past. Hopefully this guy will do a good job.

Still, this sounds like a script which Winona will be able to do a good job with, and Jim Franco is good, so I'm hoping for the best.

"The Stare” Filming on Ludlow Today and Tomorrow

Heaven forbid a week passes without a film shoot in Hell Square.  Today and tomorrow, the upper reaches of Ludlow Street, between East Houston and Rivington, will be occupied by filming crews shooting a new feature dubbed The Stare.

Directed by Jay Anania, this psychological thriller focuses on a playwright “plagued by dreams and visions of being watched, but can’t decide if she’s at the center of a manipulative plot or simply losing her grip on reality.”  The Stare stars the oft-lampooned busy-man James Franco and Winona Ryder in the lead roles.

It does seem  "Black Swan"ish and she seems to be creating a niche as the Psycho Character,
ala Nicholson or DeNiro;

Ten, Sex 101,  Informers, Pippi Lee, Swan;

which is great.

She does it well.

I'll watch this movie.

Film credits, so far.

Winona Ryder Is ‘a Little Disoriented’ From Her Work With James Franco

At Loomstate's celebration of Earth Day last night at Good Units, Winona Ryder apologized to us for seeming flustered. "I'm a little disoriented, I just came from work and I'm overwhelmed," she said. She had just started shooting Jay Anania's The Stare opposite James Franco two days earlier, "and today I had a six-page scene," she laughed. "It's going really great, it's a fantastic project, I'm really super, super excited about it. It's such a good script, it's obviously a great opportunity to work with a great actor like Franco, and the other cast" — including Josh Hamilton, Marin Ireland, and Katherine Waterston — "is fantastic." The synopsis for the film, which casts Ryder as a playwright who begins to mentally unravel before premiere night, initially recalls Black Swan (which Ryder also appeared in), and the actress didn't dispute the comparison last night: "There's a big twist that I can't reveal, but it's sort of almost that Black Swan thing where things are coming out in her play." But does she get to go mano a mano with Franco (who co-stars as an actor in the play), the way Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis had a physical throwdown in Black Swan? "I can't say," Ryder admitted after much hesitation. "There's one very, very ... Ah, I can't even say. But there's something that happens, so it's going to be great."

According to IMDB, Josh Hartnett has joined the cast.

I don't think that it's correct. Because there is no Winona and Franco. They may confused Franco with Hartnett.
