I think this film deserves better. I liked this movie. It was fun and original, and one of the best things she has done for quite some time. The premise is fun, and the cast did a good job with it.

The trouble is that my tastes are not very popular. I saw "The Dark Knight" and thought it was noisy and complicated. The Indiana Jones flick wasn't bad, but the characters are doing stuff that would put them in the hospital if they tried it for real. Yet they never look bruised and their hair always looks like they just walked out of a make-up tent. Which, of course they did.

Winona's recent projects have been a mix of good and bad, but they have usually been original and fresh. Unfortunately, the audience seems to be looking for the same familiar formula. And the number of films being produced makes it very hard to break out of the pack without having a lot of marketing.

Excellent points, Don. It is refreshing to read some positive input regarding Winona and her career. (I believe I read somewhere that she is "resorting" to showing cleavage. The shame, where is the Hayes Commision when you need them?) I enjoyed her performance in "Sex and Death 101",but like you,my taste tends to stray from the norm. I will never watch "Dark Knight " or the latest Indy movie.
I feel really good about where her career is now and I believe she is doing the movies she wants to do. She was excited about "A  Scanner Darkly", I think she wanted to work with Waters again which is why she did  101 , "The Darwin Awards" seemed very personal to her and it looked like she had a blast doing the film. I can see why she would want to work with Wain on "The Ten", and "The Informers" and "The Secret Lives of Pippa Lee" are both literary works that probably were of interest of her. I bet she really wanted to work with Miller.
I think she is doing great and I am looking forward to her future choices.
 Awards be damnned!
