The new board behaves in many ways like old the-soap board, but there are few differences, and few possible customizations, that were not possible on the-soap.
In the following list, stuff that needs to be changed to get the same behaviour as on the-soap is in
bold italics.
Features that are self-explanatory and implicitly set to settings you most probably want are not described here.
Under your profile (left up on page, in the row under your avatar click "Profile"), you can modify the following stuff (and more):
Account Related Settings-
Name - This is the displayed name that people will see, that will appear next to your posts. Can differ from your login name.

Hide email address from public? - Implicitly this is UNchecked, check it if you don't want your email to be public.

Show others your online status? - Check this if you wanna be "Hidden user".
Forum Profile Information-
Personal Text - text that is shown under avatar.

Custom Title - text that is shown under your user name.

Signature - you can use BBC codes, like
[b]bold[/b]
[i]italic[/i]
[color=red]red-colored text[/color]
[right]right aligned text[/right]
[center]centered text[/center], etc.
There is no immediate preview for signature (you have to go to "Summary" in your Profile, to see preview of signature); if you need some more advanced formatting, simply choose "Reply" in any thread, using "Preview" feature format the text as you want, and then just copy-paste the code to your signature (without posting the "practice post", of course)
Look and Layout Preferences-
Current Smiley Set - choose "No Smileys" if you don't want graphic smileys to be shown

Time Offset - implicitly board does not set this, so your time at first can be showing wrong; click "auto detect" next to the edit box, works most of the time correct

Return to topics after posting by default. - check if you want behaviour like on the-soap; implicitely board jumps out of topic after you post in it

Use quick reply on topic display - if you want just a plain combo box under posts, to type the post fast in, select "show, on by default"
Notifications and Email- use this page to change when you're gonna get an email about posts, PMs, ...
Personal Message Options-
Ignorelist - you don't wanna receive PMs from someone? just put their names here, 1 per line

Save a copy of each Personal Message in my outbox by default.-
Show a popup when you receive new messages? - check this, if you want behaviour as was default on the-soap - pop up window with new PM
