I can't find peace. why is that?

« on: February 10, 2010, 05:02:49 PM »

Why do people become the devoted fans they are, especially the ones that follow their idol around everywhere to get a glimse of her/him. But I'm mostly referring to our kind; the ones that live our everyday lives, but once and a while come in here, only to sight and get a dose of noniness. Either it be some photos, a story(their arn't many) or just some gossip.
I personally started coming to this forum not so long ago. Why, I dunno, just felt like getting connected with some good ol' nostalgia.
I noticed her when I was 13 or 14 after watching that movie House of spirits. Now a lot of people just didn't like that movie, but I found it to be one of the best pictures I'd seen.

I as many other teenagers I too went through a tough time and found a so called comfort zone. For some people it would be eating, drinking or beating up the weak. For me it was Winona Ryder. I watched every movie I could get my hands on, the others I really liked back then were Mermaids and Edward Scisserhands. It's not too long ago I saw the movie Heathers, which is also a great noni flick!

Ever since then and to this day, I am a f..dude that likes this chick:) I just don't like that word fan! According to the dictionary, a person enthusiastic about an interest. Fan is short for fanatic and is often connected with stalking. That sounds so negative... I'm wondering if I'm in denial, what do you think? Shocked  I just like her for way she projects her self on the screen. If I were to discribe her, it would be as Winona discribed her thoughts of Kate Winslet on the Conan O'Brien show. Those are exactly the words I would have used to discribe her!(without sounding like stalker that is.)

The question is what is it that drives us to be in here and stalk her photos and gossip stories. Is their something wrong with me, us? Where is this going? How are we going to let go? Do we need to?

Good questions.

I don't mind the word fan. I think of it as somewhat less than a fanatic, but whatever. To me it has that connotation. I consider myself a fan of lots of things and I don't equate it with being a fanatic.

Anyway, personally, I really like Winona as an actress, and she also represents a kind of ideal to me - but I'm under no illusions that she's some sort of perfect being, worthy of completely uncritical worship. So I follow her career, these days hoping that she'll be in a good movie. I also enjoy pictures of her because she's the epitome of what I find attractive. Anything more, I find ranging from distasteful to disgusting. For instance, I did not approve of a certain member (that has been around a long time on these boards but is mad at me at the moment) going to to her house and taking pictures. To me that was crossing the line. Other people saw nothing wrong with it. There are other activities that some fans part take in that I think are creepy or sad. Everyone needs to draw their own lines. Things I find to be unacceptable for myself, others think are fine. I always just remind myself that I don't know her, never will know her and she's a person like anyone else.

I think the fact that you're questioning this, is a good thing. It means you're not too far gone hehehe. Tongue

The main reason I come to this site is that Phil is so damn sexy.

There are things and people with which and whom I feel a connection.  1970's Karmann Ghia convertibles, I own one and often visit web sites pertaining to the restoration and maintenance of these cars. I search the web.

Henry Miller novels, I am excited each time I discover something new about the author or his work. I search the web.

The New York Mets. I can could watch that ball skip between Bill Buckner's legs 24 hours a day. I search the web.

Single barrel Kentucky sipping bourbon. Eagle Rare is my favorite but I am always  looking for something new. I search the web.

Bathroom and kitchen fixtures and designs. I remodel houses and I love to discover the latest technologies, applications and hardware. I search the web.

Winona Ryder, I think she is really cool, a great actress, and I enjoy her movies very much. I search the web.

I like to learn about and explore all aspects of that or whom I enjoy.

I search the web.

Hello, I'm new to this board.  Any devotee or enthusiast, since you don't like the word fan, perhaps enjoys some emotional connectedness with the person in mind.  Though actors are merely pretenders of characters there is still some part of their personality within their work.  After watching Winona for some time, I won't call her Noni because I don't know her, one may gain an appreciation of the actor playing the different parts?

I believe an actor's private life is just that, private.  I wouldn't visit anyone unless invited by that person.

Humphrey Bogart

I agree Winona is a very beautiful young woman and an adept actress.  I don't know her work as well as most of you but in time I hope to.  The frame of mind of the original poster reminded me a little of me and the Australian singer Kylie Minogue.  In my case, Kylie helped me to believe in romance again.   love

These are really Fascinating discussion. well for me. I can call my self as a fan a huge fan of winona ryder. even though I am a girl. I admire her because she's a good actress, well good isn't enough to describe her, that's why i'll say she's the best. I admire her when i watched Dracula and beetle juice when I was 4 or 5 Smiley rock years old. i find her great in the role that she portray. and after that i begin to watch all her movies..

I find her to be impossibly beautiful. She's talented, but if she didn't look the way she did, I don't think she's be any different to a Natalie Portman in my mind. I like how she comes across. Subtle and shy rather than a Angelia Jolie type. She's modest when she has no right to be.

Reading some of these posts makes me reflect on my self and my somewhat "obsession". I'm sorry, but I just had to laugh when I read a post with some dude talking about a "connection" with Winona. I think it's kind of silly, but I have to admit; at one point when everything was @#$% and I didn't have anything else good in life, I told my self at least I have this "connection". - HAHA silly young and dumb I was! A bit awkward and funny:) To be foolishly in love with an actress, someone u don't know with a totally different lifestyle and idea of life is just absurd. Dude, if your reading this, please don't get me wrong. We all have the right to dream, but at some point in life you just got to wake up and smell the coffee. I guess I didn't like the word "fan" because I believed it was more petty and I was more..

I agree with you Godrex, you seem to have a healthy relationship with your fanoniness. You are what I would call; "the good fan". Some here as you mentioned are the ones of over the edge to fanatic. I guess the word fan is Ok to use, I lot of people use it to describe their enthusiasm of something including me sometimes...

Who's Phil?  happy no

Klytus: I'm happy to hear you found romance again. I'm still working on it... Sometimes we really do need some one we can hold on to, so we keep going forward past negativity. It's almost like religion. It's about having that someone/something there when times get tough. Some take religion to the extreme... I'm an atheist...
