It used to be a tradition here, to watch the show and make comments on it, and hope to see Winona. But it seemed to die off, especially since Winona seemed to stop going at some point. I usually end up watching it, even though I don't care about it at all. I have a laptop now, so maybe I'll try to hang out that night.

I have a TV tuner in my computer now, so I will probably watch and post at he same time, if I remember when it is on.
I'm very pleased to see Sandra Bullock get a nomination for best actress, I've been a fan of hers for years. I think this is her first nomination?
Should Avatar win best picture? Well, it has made a lot of money and has broken quite a lot of new ground technically. On the other hand the script, the story, isn't best picture worthy in my view. But then, neither was Titantic.

Wowwww from the Vancouver Sun: BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Though she barely appeared in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Winona Ryder was hilarious as Robin Wright Penn's semi-suicidal best friend. http://www.vancouversun.c...gshots/2512167/story.html

I think Avatar is too big a movie to fail to win best picture. The best visual effects award is another guaranteed win.
Should it win? I guess it depends on what sort of film you think Hollywood should make. It is visually and technically innovative, and it made a lot of money. It was also highly entertaining. As a visual spectacle it wins, as a story not so much.

I today read an article on my TV-mag stating the Oscars-Show had lacking ratings due to decorating "small non-commercial" movies grossing about 200 million to 400 million dollars. Well since when are such movies called "non-commercial"? And this year they want to decorate BIG movies so that more poeple will watch the show. Hope this is just false information because mostly the big action no-brainers gather big crowds and box-office - but acting worth an Oscar? I hope the dramas will win - IMO the only kind of movie showing great acting. For all other - including Avatar or Star Trek there should only be the technical Oscars. And for good ratings I always thought they created the Best Animated Category - even if I like classically animated movies far more than todays lazily computer-animated things. On Winona: Maybe we see her again on the Paramount party like on the GG...

Loosely, as usual. Sometimes never. The "deserved ones" rarely ever win, but sometimes it can happen. So there's that hope for a surprise or two, as usual. Its what keeps me sorta hanging in there you know. And some catagories, unmentioned here, need to be left out for a better timed show. It seems as if its been getting heavier when it really shouldn't have through the years. Yep.
One more thing: Avatar should only win for Best Visual Effects - not Best Picture. I was very disappointed with that experience, except for a few aspects. It is so over-rated that nearly every Pandora-induced fan was duped by this film thinking it was the best. It clearly wasn't. Its story had some sizable empty holes that I would have never written if I were the actual screenwriter. And I think humanity is, or can be, much better than that. We all, okay most of us, just have to find our unconditional faiths using that deep feeling in our hearts called love and work towards that dreamy plateau known as universal peace. And if anyone disagrees with me here - I rest my case. Yep.
