She's never been on Letterman. I would love for her to do that.

I remember reading an article a while back talking about actors and musicians who would never do Letterman and I thought Winona was one of them mentioned. I'll see if I can find it...

I remember when she was promoting "Girl Interrupted", she went on Leno, Conan and Rosie. I wanted her to do Letterman, I am a fan of his from day one. When I was in college his show debuted at 10:30 in the morning. I would cut my electrical engineering class to watch Bill Murray half asleep and  complaining about not being able to find a gyro at 4 in the morning. And then there was that guy who had a little people's village. Rick? Rich? I had to take that class over again. Wake, bake, plus Letterman equals stupid  freshman tricks.
 Love Dave.

What do you think? Will Winona promote the movie with some appearances at CBS talkshows?  Roll Eyes
I hope she does. Another appearance on Charlie Rose would be cool and since it's a CBS show she'll probably do their morning show to promote it.

Barry Pepper talks about Winona and their new film!

Quote
And in the romantic drama When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story, a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation slated to air on CBS in April, he plays Bill Wilson, the hard-drinking Wall Street securities analyst who achieved sobriety when he co-founded Alcoholics Anonymous. It prompted his loving wife Lois, played by Winona Ryder, to co-found Al-Anon, which supports the families of alcoholics, in 1951.

"It was really intense subject matter, as you can well imagine," Pepper, 39, said. "It was wretched alcoholism. Bill Wilson was completely ravaged by this disease for 17 years of his marriage and they stuck by one another. Once he got sober, he decided the only thing that would keep him sober was working with other drunks, and that was the beginning of AA."

He was drawn to the film's solid script and the chance to work with Ryder and reunite with John Harrison Kent, who directed Pepper in Johnny's Girl, a 1995 made-for-TV drama co-starring Treat Williams.

"Winona's making a really focused comeback," he said. "She was tremendous to work with. I love her. She's a fantastic talent."

Winona a "talent" - as if she's new.... Tongue

But as said before this movie is VERY important for Winona's career - IMO more important than all movies she did since "the incident". If this movie is good - and I mean REALLY and OVERALL good, not like with most previous movies in the last years were many critics started with "Winona Ryder gives a solid performance, BUT..." - this could really relaunch her career in a way that she will finally able to do movies again that more than a handful of poeple are watching.

Another thought: I've seen on the picture boards that Showtime and HBO do "real" premieres of their TV-movies. Think Hallmark will do the same with this one?

Hmmmm. I kind of disagree about the importance of this made for TV movie.

Here's my take on it. It's another job. I don't think there are many important people waiting to see the outcome of it. People in the industry know what she can do. She's a known quantity. I'm sure it will be a good production and Winona will be fine in it, but I doubt it will be blowing anyone's mind and suddenly she'll be seen as some sort of bankable actress that people need to get into their movie.

There are lot of people that want to work with her, but I seriously doubt that this little Halmark thing is going to get her back into wide release, heavily promoted movies. I'm not even sure that she even wants that at this point in her life. But even if she does, going to TV movies is not the way that it will happen.

And, I hate to beat a dead horse, but I still think her handling of the whole shoplifting thing was terrible and hurt her in a way that doesn't go away quickly. I mean it's been nearly 10 years and she's still the punchline to bad jokes. It's mentioned nearly every time there's any mention of her in any kind of story.

To me she needs an incredible must-see role in movie that can get people talking about her again in a very positive way. I seriously doubt that this is going to be that role. But maybe I'm wrong. Still very much looking forward to seeing it.

@GoDrex

Maybe you're right. I always forget the clear divide between TV and cinema in the US - here in europe nearly all major movie-producers ARE TV-stations like  BBC, Canal+, arte - so we don't have that devide... Cool

That way we don't have "movie"-actors and "tv"-actors - european actors all do both. And nobody is saying tv is a step down.

And most importantly: I want Winona in more prominent movies. I hate waiting for her movies for years to be released on DVD in some remote corner of the world.... sad no sad no sad no

I want the same things. I'm not trying to be a bummer about it, just realistic.

In the US most actors are trying to jump from TV to movies. Now if you do TV like on HBO or Showtime, that's a totally different thing because those companies attract better talent because of the freedom they provide (and money). I'd actually much rather see Winona get on an episodic show on HBO than on the network (though I'd take that too because I'd get to see her all the time). Something like The Sopranos, The Wire, 6 Feet Under etc. That I would love, but I don't think that's her kind of thing (no idea really).

This Hallmark movie might help her, but my opinion is that it will just be a small blip on the radar. It is possible that she could be amazing in it and win an Emmy - that's the best case scenario for me. Even a nomination would be nice, but we'll just have to wait and see. Anything less than that will mostly likely be kind of forgettable to anyone other than fans.
