The Hughes Connection, or, When Reganomics meets Grunge

Sixteen Candles = Mermaids    Two teenage girls come of age, fall in love with the same guy,(Micael Schoeffling), while coping with a crazy family life.

Breakfast Club = Heathers        Teenagers dealing with stereotypes and cliques, one exchanges earrings, the other, gunfire.

St. Elmo's Fire = Reality Bites    Just give Ethan Hawke a saxaphone.

In each instance, I prefer the latter.
