Billy Bob Thornton gave a puzzling, Joaquin Phoenix-esque interview Wednesday in a Canadian Broadcasting Corp. radio appearance.
A mumbling, exhausted-looking Thornton appeared with his band, the Boxmasters, who are on tour with Willie Nelson.
A lifelong musician (he's made eight albums), Angelina Jolie's ex appeared sensitive to any suggestion that music was a mere ``hobby.''
When host Jian Ghomeshi asked Thornton when they formed, Thornton said: ``I don't know what you're talking about.''
Asked what music he listened to when he was young, Thornton rambled about reading the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland.
The Oscar winner (Sling Blade) took offense when Ghomeshi suggested he was passionate about music: ``Would you say that to Tom Petty?''
Thornton, 53, eventually made it clear that he was angry with Ghomeshi for introducing Thornton as an ``Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor and director.''
''You were instructed not to talk about &$@* like that,'' said a combative Thornton.
Ghomeshi, who's also in the band Moxy Fruvous, did an amazing job staying composed, replying he was ``just giving context.''
After the seven-minute interview (check it out on YouTube), the band performed a tune without Thornton -- who didn't have his instrument. ''I'm a drummer -- we don't cart those around at 6 o'clock in the morning,'' Thornton said.
