Hollywood actor CHRISTIAN SLATER is desperate to return to the big screen alongside WINONA RYDER in a sequel to their hit film HEATHERS, calling the potential project a "dream come true". Slater starred alongside Ryder and Shannen Doherty in the popular 1989 comedy about four girls who form a clique at a suburban high school. And he admits he and Ryder have been itching to pair up again for a follow-up to the movie. Slater tells AOL Television, "Yeah, sometimes I see Winona (Ryder) and she's like, 'Are you ready to do Heathers 2?' And I'm like, 'Sure!' I would do it in a heartbeat. I would totally love to do that character again - J.D... That would be like a dream come true for me. So we'll see. If they want to put something together, I'd be thrilled." http://www.contactmusic.c...heathers%20sequel_1083379

Noooooooooooo!!! Make it stop!!! Seriously - it's nearly a perfect movie and should just be left alone. It doesn't need a sequel. Christian should stop talking about it and focus on his new TV show.

I agree! I know how badly Winona want to do this, but I just I think it's a horrible idea that I hope it does not happen!

Ryder: 'Heathers' sequel is happening Friday, May 29 2009, 10:58am EDT
By Simon Reynolds, Movies Editor
Winona Ryder has revealed that a sequel to her 1988 black comedy Heathers is "in the works".
Speaking to Empire, the actress confirmed that despite original screenwriter Dan Waters and director Michael Lehman's refusal to comment on the subject, plans are being made for a follow-up.
"Whatever you hear, there is a sequel in the works. I swear to God," Ryder said. "But for some reason Dan and Michael don't want to talk about it. I've been wanting to do a sequel forever."
Heathers centres on Veronica, a high-schooler who is part of a clique headed by three girls named Heather. Veronica soon finds herself led astray from the group by Christian Slater's rebellious new student J.D.
Ryder added that a storyline has been decided on for the new Heathers, which will see Slater "come back as a kind of Obi-Wan character". http://www.digitalspy.com...el-is-happening.html?imdb

The problem with sequels - especially sequels to cult movies - is that the new movie will be closely compared to the original. The only thing I can see this is that - now in "ordered" lives Veronica and J.D. meet again and all hell breakes lose again. But that hell needs to be a hell of a plot to stand up to the original - I would be VERY sceptical, but would nevertheless see it multiple times in cinema.... Genrally I think Winona and Christian are rooting for this - but Dan Waters and Michael Lehmann have always - well not really refused - but keeping it very low on their prirority lists. Sometimes I think they don't kill this completly because this way they can still be friends with Winona.

Is 'Heathers 2' Just (More) Delusional Thinking On Winona Ryder's Part? As many have noted recently, including ourselves, Winona Ryder has been pretty much desperate to get "Heathers 2" made and has been bugging original writer Dan Waters and director Michael Lehman to get a sequel going for year. Both filmmakers have been putting her off for years too, with, "uhhh, yeah, totally" tranquilizing non-answers. As /Film aptly puts it, "While [they haven't quite] called her crazy, [they've] sent out the message... this sequel is probably never going to happen."
Which is completely the case, but Ryder obviously persists. And recently came out and said the sequel was definitely happening. It's possible, but doubtful his position has changed, but last year, in a Creative Screenwriting podcast Waters basically laughed off the idea of "Heathers 2," suggested it was something that Ryder is always on about and generates ideas so he can placate her — possibly so she'll star in other films of his like, "Sex And Death 101" from 2007.
Asked about "Heathers 2," Waters' initial response was. "Oh brother...It's the only way I can get Winona Ryder to pick up the phone."
Q: is that how you got her to star in "Sex and Death 101"? "It's just always the elephant in the room. "Like (mimics manipulative voice) 'Well, if you wanna do the 'Heathers 2 sequel'...' Yeah, I've had a bunch of crappy sequel ideas. One of them was where she went to Washington and worked with a senator to be played by Meryl Streep and ends up assassinating the president and makes it look like a suicide, but I throw these cockamamie things out there and she'll come up to me at parties and say, 'I've talked to Meryl, she's in' and like 'what?? You told Meryl Streep that horrible [idea]?' She'll be like, 'No, she likes it, she has a couple notes,' [copious laughter] but I never follow-up. But now I do have this crazy thing just to placate her — though it's not really gonna happen though people; we're even 10 years past 'Two Jakes' at this point — that I like the idea of doing a parody of those crappy 'Dangerous Minds' movie where the 'cool' teacher comes in and I like the idea of her coming in as a teacher and trying to cure all the high school proms and ends up trying to engineer a massacre, but its not as funny anymore! Massacres aren't...Columbine took away all the laughs."
Yes, that response is a year old, do you think anything has changed? Somehow, we sincerely doubt it (though watch someone go, "Dan Waters Wants To Parody Dangerous Minds For Heathers 2!") http://theplaylist.blogsp...just-more-delusional.html

Yeah I've been going with the "she's crazy" idea for a while now. Still love her to death, but she's definitely got a screw loose.

I don't know. Winona pitching "Heathers 2" to Meryl Streep? Seems kind of tongue in cheek to me.
"She has a couple of notes" !!!

Yeah I've been going with the "she's crazy" idea for a while now. Still lover her to death, but she's definitely got a screw loose. But I don’t think she’s crazy for pursuing a film and role that she loves and is passionate about. I mean, as much as I don’t want to see this film happen, you got to give the women credit for being persistent enough all these years to try get Dan Waters and Michael Lehman to make this film happen!

Sure so many of our members would like to see Winona in a "Heathers" sequel", but how can it ever imagine to top the original "cult" movie ----- Don't get me wrong a sequel would be great, just to see Winona in a new movie would be so enjoyable. ----- Rusty
