Well, the director was changed to "Ted Smith" - a good move to further discredit the movie.... That just doesn't make any sense... the film was already filmed! It must be a mistake. That's what I'm thinking...I don't really think a director could film a film and then be like 'hey, ya know what, I just don't feel like doing this anymore'...maybe halfway through...but not when its fininshed

Will be available on DVD in Australia starting September 22nd. You can pre-order hereI've also seen it will be available to rent in the Netherlands starting September 7th - but the DVD sellers from there have no selling date so far. I might order it from Australia if it isn't available from Europe or USA or at least announced by mid-September - with my good old code-free DVD player region 4 coding should be no problem....

This store also accepts more credit cards. So far no information on other DVD releases in Europe. The netherland DVD rental is made by a very small company - Bridge Entertainment -that doesn't even have it on its website listed. Australia DVD release is made by Sony.

And another store promising fast international airmail delivery in 4-9 business days, but costs a little more - dstore.com.au seems to have decided during the last days to longer ship outside australia.....

Thought this was interesting. "Manure" and "Stay Cool"
Mark and Michael Polish, the twins behind "Northfolk" and "Twin Falls Idaho," thought they had figured out a new way to make mid-budget independent films. Unfortunately, it appears they still haven't figured out a way to distribute them. With Prohibition Pictures, the Polish brothers created a studio that would make two films instead of one and keep much of the same crew employed throughout and recycling a lot of the same sets and equipment, eliminating many of a production's start-up costs.
They also found no shortage of famous actors to help them with their first two films: "Manure" stars Billy Bob Thornton and Ed Helms in a '50s set comedy about fertilizer salesmen tasked with helping a widow (Téa Leoni) keep up her family business, and "Stay Cool," a comedy starring Mark Polish as a famous author who returns home to give a commencement address and gets pulled back in with the townies he left behind including Sean Astin, Josh Holloway, Winona Ryder, Chevy Chase and Hilary Duff.
"Manure" and "Stay Cool" premiered in early 2009 as a one-two punch at Sundance and Tribeca, respectively, but failed to knock out distributors. Strangely, according to IMDb, "Manure" has been given a new title ("The Smell of Success") and both films have suspicious new directors credited on their official sites: Larry Smith on "The Smell of Success" and Ted Smith on "Stay Cool." At least, these could be indications a release of some kind is in the offing, but besides shady changes in the director's chair, there are other signs the Polish brothers have moved on -- in May, they announced they were making the romantic drama "For Lovers Only" with "Castle" star Stana Katic and a month later, a teaser trailer surfaced for their take on "Wizard of Oz."

I think time is over musing over a theatrical release. As prices drop further for this movies more and more DVD distributors will jump on.

Have ordered it from the netherlands - for € 10 And will get it early next week. The store is bol.com - Link hereThere were also some stores offering the movie for € 6 but they either had no foreign delivery or problems with their secure transaction servers which is IMO quite suspicous.

Finally got the movie on DVD from the netherlands. WARNING - SPOILERS The movie reminds me in some ways of Welcome Home Roxy. The only real characters in Stay Cool are Scarlet (Winona) and Henry (Mark Polish) - all other characters are mostly there for fun and quite two-dimensional. Chevy Chase has some seldom but nice pop-in scenes in a Caddyshack kind of way as a little wacky headmaster. Jon Cryer is quite wasted and he isn't really needed for the story. All actors show fun playing their roles but the movie fails to bring the singular great performances together. Winona's character somehow reminds me of her portrayel of Charlotte Fielding in Autumn In New York - of course minus the disease. The story is about Henry comming back 18 years after graduartion to hold the commencement speach at his high school. Meeting old buddies in town he also meets Scarlet - his schooltime crush. Back in school Scarlet was the starlet of the school who went for the popular sports jock - who turned out to be an asshole treating Scarlet bad. As Henry shows up she has finally split up and after some dates decides not to look back but moves on again. If you went to your last school reunion and really thought it was a very bad idea you will like this movie. Also if you were the nerd back then and like to see how the most popular at high school failed. Winona plays okay but the role doesn't hold many challenges. She's the female lead and in about 30-35 minutes. And even if you have no acting challenges for Winona here at last there are many scenes with Winona in a thight t-shirt sitting on her bed - well something at last for the men.... If someone also wants to order it the DVD is quite plain. Single sided, no extras. Regional code is 2 (Europe) and the disc is not copy-protected.

I'm mostly through this movie and I think it might be one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen in my life. I can totally understand why this went nowhere. It's an embarrassment. This makes Mr. Deeds look like an Oscar contender.
Really didn't like this movie.

Well I think it tells a lot that the DVD is not protected. Overall I'd think it's en par with Deeds and would've get a t least a limited release in the 90s. Next to that Winona is in it with the short black hair look I love about her - I just don't think much about the story and just enjoy seeing her... I'll have vidcaps on my site on sunday.

Stay Cool now also comes to germany - under the title "Feuer & Flamme" ("Fire and Flame") and even on Blue-Ray. The whole promotion seems to be geared toward Hillary Duff fans... Interestingly for the german release Michael Polish is named as director and not his pseudonym.
