Hehehehe how could I have a board on wfzr.net and not do some spam for my radio station? I'm sure you can forgive me that much. Wink

Just go to http://www.WFZR.net/radio and you'll see options to listen with Winamp or a pop up player. You can even try Windows Media player -  if you have the latest version it should work. I recommend the pop up player. It will install something so you have to let it do that for it to work. If you're uncomfortable with that Winamp works very well.

You can even make requests through the website and they should play in about 30+ minutes. Do a search, I'm sure there something almost anyone could like there. You can even add music to the station if you want! It's very interactive.

Unfortunately only 10 listeners can listen at one time - but that's never been a problem. I think the most ever at once was 6 or 7 hehehe.

OK I'm done... Wink

Doris decided to record some promos for me, and I like them very much.

http://www.godrex.com/aud/doris/ - click there

I'm sick and feeling down and these really cheered me up. I added them to my system right away. They're play at the top of the hour and at the 30.

Thanks Doris. happy yes

if anyone else feels like making one for me that would be great. it doesn't have to be all involved. I can spiff it up afterwards too. Smiley

What's the deal with this radio station on the site? Does this have something to do with Winona or did I just miss some kind of a memo?

the site, the radio, and this board are all hosted by the same person - GoDrex (and many thanks to him for that)... the radio is not Winona-oriented, there's lots of Zappa, plus you can make requests via the site...

the WFZR stands originally for something like Worldwide Frank Zappa Radio; the "Winona FanZ Refuge" was made up to fit the same abb...

Yeah WFZR radio was around long before this site. I started it in 1998 though it was just and FM station then and not online. I started streaming online around 2002 or 03. This Winona fan board exists only because it could not continue at the-soap.com and I thought it should continue in some way. So this is what we came up with.

I never thought of the W standing for "Worldwide" - though that's not bad. In the USA radio stations on the eastern side of the country (east of the Mississippi river, with some exceptions) use a W for the begining of the stations call letters. In the west radio station start with a K. So if I was in California or some other place out west the station would be KFZR. Even though I'm not licensed (shhhh don't tell anyone Wink ) I use the conventions of real radio stations for the fun of it.

One Winona related detail: When WFZR first started I used to play certain books on tape, mainly for me to listen to. One of those was The Diary of Anne Frank - read by Winona.

Sad day today for me. Around lunch time the doorbell rang and two Federal Agents from the FCC were at my door. So as of today the FM broadcast is over. I've been doing this for about 12 years and they finally caught up with me. Someone filed a complaint with the FCC. They wanted to enter my house to look at my equipment, but I just told them I'd turn it off and never turn it back on. I'll be getting a letter from them soon I guess. I hope I don't get a fine. Not sure if I will continue in some way (like on a different frequency). It might be a good time to give it up - though I hate giving in to anything the government wants - especially since one person out there didn't like what I was doing. censored

Bummer man.   blink  The WFZR internet radio will still be going though, right?  I didn't know you were broadcasting on FM (until I read the above comments)... maybe an AM frequency?  Must feel a bit violating to have federal agents wanting to step inside your house!
