I agree AOI is a great film, but it's not one of my top 5 favorites.

I agree AOI is a great film, but it's not one of my top 5 favorites.

Perhaps I took the question as "best" rather than "favorite". I'm a movie buff above all else, and Age of Innocence stands as the most technically impressive and compelling drama she's ever took part in in my estimation. Noni may never work with that combined level of talent again.

I suppose "favorite" would mean something slightly different. Great Balls Of Fire is certainly a favorite of mine. She was adorable in that film.

Side note, do you know where I can find my avatar in high res. I've lost it and it's one of my favorites of her.

The same themes are being explored as in the likes of Goodfellas and Taxi Driver

I disagree, sorry.

AOI is a good movie, but in my opinion its not one of Mr Scorsese’s best.

You disagree with the notion the same themes are being explored? Scorsese makes New York films about people who's own passions are contrary to what society wants them to be. Your opinion is your own, but it's also among the general consensus. My top 5 Scorsese films are as follows.

1. Taxi Driver
2. Goodfellas
3. The Age of Innocence
4. Raging Bull
5. Mean Streets

I would definitely (along with general consensus) rate the colour of money, casino, gangs of new york, the aviator and the departed as better films that Scorsese has made ahead of both AOI and mean streets.  But that’s not what this thread is about.

Yeah, The Colour of Money and Casino I have never particularly cared for. The cinematography is wonderful in both, but Casino always felt like a Goodfellas clone and Colour is just a poor sequel to an all-time classic in The Hustler. Cruise is annoying, Pesci doing a rehash of his Goodfellas character.

Roger Ebert, one of the most well respected film critics of the last 40 years, ranks AOI amongst Marty's best films and so do I.

I like Winona best in dark comedic roles but I think she's also great in period movies.

Here are my Top 5 Winona Ryder movies:

1. Reality Bites--- because it's contemporary and overall a good company despite all the smoking...hehehe...and because she's adorable in it

2. Heathers--- how can you have a list of favorite Winona Ryder movies without this in it?

3. Night On Earth--- I know this is a segment movie but this is my favorite character she's ever played...Corky kicks ass, man!!!

4. The Age of Innocence--- because I wish I lived in that era

5. The Crucible--- because she's intense in this movie

1/Heathers .....It is just a really cool, funny classic film.

2/ Age of Innocence......I like period pieces, and I think this film is really under-rated.

3/Reality Bites........very relevant at the time, unfortunately still relevant today

4/ Little Women ..... with Clare Danes and Susan Sarandon, very well done

5/Scanner Darkly ...... I like science fiction, and this film had a very unique look and a very cool cast....Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson etc
