Germany's Senator doubles revenue Rise attributed to growth in local distribution, int'l prod'n By Scott Roxborough
May 2, 2008, 01:46 PM
COLOGNE, Germany -- Germany's Senator Entertainment doubled revenue and booked a small pretax profit last year, thanks to a development the company attributed to the rapid expansion of its German distribution and international production businesses.
Senator earned 68.4 million euros ($105 million) last year, compared with 35 million euros in 2006, and booked an EBIT profit of 1.8 million euros ($2.7 million) compared with 70,000 euros in 2006.
Senator released 24 titles in Germany last year, compared with just six in 2006. On the international production side, Senator has delivered its first English-language title, the Julia Roberts starrer "Fireflies in the Garden," and is set to release its second, the Bret Easton Ellis adaptation "The Informers," in the fall. For this year, Senator is forecasting sales of at least 85 million euros and an EBIT slightly above 1 million euros.

Hey everyone! I have some interesting news to spread. However, don't get too excited in fear of being dissapointed later! I have been seeing a number of very early reports of awards buzz surrounding Winona's performance in this film. I have read the novel and Winona's role is a dramatic one and does have that sort of awards vibe feel to it (if you know what I'm talking about ). So, this is very exciting news and I hope that it turns out to be true. I think it's about time Winona gets some positive recognition and positive reactions for her films instead of the all the negative attention towards her personal life. So, really who knows? I still think it's way too early to say anything about awards and such. So, I guess we shall see...(Keep your fingers crossed for her though)

So, there was a screeing yesterday in California. Here are some reviews from IMDB. I saw this movie tonight in a preview screening and it was absolutely terrible. Brad Renfro and Mickey Rourke were actually very good, but they were overshadowed by the stupidity of the rest of the film. I haven't read the book, but I would imagine that you guys would hate it even more. I don't even know what to say. It was absolute garbage. yea I saw it at a special screening tonight too. Mine was in Pasadena.
anyway, i agree, this movie sucked. plain and simple. My friends and I were seriously like "What the <!>" throughout the whole thing. We even asked a few other people what they thought and all made the same "bad" face.
Stay away if you dont wanna be disappointed. Its pretty much pointless, except for a loose moral point in there somewhere. we were all bored out of our minds and just waiting for it to end.

More talk of the screening. The Informers was test screened last night, and looks like there will be some work to do to get it ready for release.
Bret Easton Ellis adaptations are indeed hard to do and a loose collection of short stories makes it even harder. That maybe the criticism of the test audiences, not the performances, but bringing all the stories together. Earlier reports have said that the vampire storyline with Brandon Routh has been cut completely, and that Ellis had made the decision to do so after the reception that it got as a subplot. While Ellis wanted to show the interconnection to the life of LA in the 80's translating that from page to screen is easier said than done. There is a fine line between capturing that energy and taking the energy and interest out of the audience. The have been some mentions of good performances from Mickey Rouke, Brad Renfro, and Winona Ryder, in her slow return back to the big screen. No word on the Austin as performance as Martin. Despite the first impressions of a few about the movie as a whole, most would agree just seeing Austin back on the big screen is something all are waiting for. http://ohmygodot.blogspot...esting-testing-1-2-3.html

The Informers” To Be Scored by Christopher Young By Mikael Carlsson | Film Music Magazine | August 25, 2008
Spider-Man 3 composer Christopher Young has now included The Informers in his filmography on his official web site. This is the film version of the Bret Easton Ellis’ novel featuring seven different stories of various morally challenged characters - the tagline of the movie is “Greed is good. Sex is easy. Youth is forever.” The pretty impressive cast includes Amber Heard, Billy Bob Thornton, Winona Ryder, Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke. Gregor Jordan (Ned Kelly) directs. The novel includes fantasy elements (one of the main characters is a vampire), something which reportedly has been omitted from the film version. Distribution will be handled by Senator International. Christopher Young is also doing the music for romantic dramas Traveling and When in Rome, and he also returns to the horror genre, scoring Drag Me to Hell, produced and directed by Sam Raimi. http://www.filmmusicmag.com/?p=1785Christopher Young's Official page: http://www.officialchristopheryoung.com/Christopher Young's Filmography

Googled again for the german release.... Some sites still have the original release date listed: 30.10.2008 Other already have a new date: 01.01.2009 Both could be likely as both are thursdays - the traditional german movie start day.... Lets wait, see and drink tea (or pray depending on your beliefs....)

I emailed Bret Easton Ellis' Myspace page asking about the release of this film. His reply: No release date as of yet. We will let everyone know once we find out for sure. Thanks for the interest!

maybe this is also affected by financing-problems after the economy breakdown - Paramount just said to push some already finished movies into the next year as they have no money left - and will get none - for advertising
