I guess the gold and blue is meant to symbolized Kirk (gold command uniform) and Spock (blue science uniform)?

I think this movie is a bad idea. It's nice that Winona keeps working, but I don't think this role will be anything special. And to go backwards in Star Trek to the time of Kirk is dumb to me. I'm sure I'll eventually see it but I'm not excited about it at all.

@godrex I agree (how far have we come to... ) But maybe - by miracle - this movie will be better than it sounds. But the trailer is already rirsing suspicions for me:It looks to me like Enterprise is beeing built on the surface - even the ill-fated first Enterprise was built in drydock orbiting earth. Maybe thru all the nebula you can't see the stars - a nebula around erath - it just already doens't feel right....

Looks like we'll have to wait until 2009 now! Star Trek Movie Delayed Until Next Year Well, it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer to beam anyone up.
Those who made it out to see Cloverfield in the past few weeks got a sneak peek at another J.J. Abrams production: Star Trek. (If you haven’t seen the clip yet, you can view it after the jump.) Unfortunately, a major part of that trailer is now no longer true.
The highly-anticipated prequel/sequel was slated to be released ‘Christmas 2008’. What it should have said was ‘December....Give Or Take a Few Months.’
According to Variety, the movie’s premiere will remain ‘under construction’ until May 8, 2009.
The film was simply part of a major reshuffling in Paramount‘s calendar. In most cases, a changed date usually signals bad news; that’s not the case with Trek. In fact, the studio believes the movie will benefit from this shift.
Actors involved in the next installment include Tyler Perry, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Eric Bana, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy. 'Star Trek' Release Delayed Until 2009 In a post-strike shuffling of its release calendar, Paramount has decided to move J.J. Abrams' anticipated ''Star Trek'' prequel from December 2008 to May 2009
(FROM VARIETY) — The starship Enterprise will be waiting an additional five months before docking in theaters. On Wednesday, Paramount announced that it is postponing the release of the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek reboot, from December 2008 to May 2009. Does the change in plans have something to do with script rewrites or budget overruns or other production snafus? According to Variety, the studio arrived at this decision while reshuffling its release schedule now that the strike is over; the walkout caused shooting on several films to be postponed, thus creating gaps in the movie calendar that needed to be filled. Also, apparently, studio insiders claim that the film stands to gross more money in the summer than it would have in the fall.
The movie is the 11th feature-film installment in the Gene Roddenberry-created franchise, and it'll be the first to explore the central characters' early careers. Chris Pine will play Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto is set for Spock. Leonard Nimoy will also return as an older version of the Vulcan he made famous starting in 1966. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20178024,00.html

Yeah that shouldn't have been a surprise given the writers' strike and its recent end would shake up a couple of things in the studios.

Looks like we may see and Winona "Star Trek" doll!!! We decide to go forward with the meeting regardless of the absence of 4K Production, and are ushered into a small side office that we're not really supposed to be in - it's the secret Star Trek: The Future Begins pitch room. We're half-jokingly asked to sign non-disclosure agreements to even be in the room, and I'm told "No photographs." Moi? But here's one of the surface of the meeting table. Mind you, there is little insider information about the Star Trek film on display in the room, just photographs of the cast, a list of vague product ideas (ie "Mattel: special Barbie." Of Winona Ryder? Can't wait). http://the-5th-turtle.blo...york-toy-fair-report.html

PARAMOUNT IS KEEPING EVERYTHING ABOUT STAR TREK UNDER WRAPS
Paramount has been cloaked in secrecy since the Star Trek prequal commenced filming. (Zachary Quinto, above, is playing the young Dr Spock) The movie is now being mysteriously referred to as "The Executive Project." Studio tours have been rerouted to avoid the "Executive Project" soundstage. Every actor and crew member has signed confidentiality agreements and guards are posted outside every stage door. When actors walk from stage to dressing rooms they wear long black cloaks with hoods to completely cover their costumes. Golf carts are totally shrouded in black fabric with an opening for the drivers eyes. Winona Ryder was annoyed because she wasn't allowed to go outside and smoke so they built a 10X10 black tent outside the soundstage where she can puff privately. Looks like early photos of this film with be worth major bucks. Now that's just plain ridiculous!

Star Trek movies were always filmed under heavy guard and secrecy....including false promo-photos and scripts....

Someone on IMDB said this of Winona's role in the film: my brother, who is working on the movie, says she has a really small part As much as I really wasn't thrilled with Winona's involvment in the film I figured if she has to be in it I at least hope she has a bigger part.

Spocks mother always was a bit part - except for "Journey To Babel" - but this episode was about Spocks realtionship to his parents and I doubt you would make a movie about it. As far as I see the storyline of this movie we can be lucky if Amanda appears getting her son to Starfleet Academy....five minutes of screentime if we're lucky. And then we should pray the movie wouldn't end up too long - cause then comes the cutting knife....

New Star Trek movie filmed in Kern County
One of Hollywood's biggest production companies is back Kern County shooting a movie that millions have been waiting for.
Paramount Producers are filming the next Star Trek movie just outside Bakersfield.
For millions of Star Trek fans an anxious wait is almost over and characters from the famed television series and theatrical space drama beaming into Kern County for a few scenes.
The movie isn't finished but the trailer is already is on the internet.
Details of the movie are secret, but here is what we do know.
Director J.J. Abrams who directed Mission Impossible Three is in Kern County directing "Star Trek: The Prequel."
The Star Trek movie will feature Winona Ryder and Chris Pine as a young James T. Kirk.
Producers say this Star Trek will feature a young, new crew.
Jeffery Chernoz, a Paramount producer, said that Paramount found it logical to pick Kern County as a shoot location because it is close to hollywood and looks like Kirk's home state of Iowa.
Chernoz said, "We wanted something that looked like Iowa, and we also wanted to stay close to Los Angeles. So, we came out here and scouted and realized that we can kind of make Iowa out of Bakersfield."
Rick Davis from the Kern County Board of Trustees said, "We often market ourselves as Hollywood's back lot to the north. We've also been very proud of the fact that if you were going to shoot a movie in Maine and end up in Los Angeles, every scene you would need, we have here in Kern County."
Davis said the Star Trek movie will bring in $2 million in revenue for Kern County.
He said Paramount casted for extras here in Kern County, and producers confirmed, actors from Kern County will be making appearances in the newest Star Trek movie. And apparently Winona is there too! Someone from IMDB said she is in town filming! I thought she was filming "Pippa Lee" now!

Exclusive: A Conversation with Trek's Two Spocks Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto by Albert L. Ortega/ WireImage.comWith the summer 2009 premiere of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek still more than a year away, Leonard Nimoy has officially passed the torch as Spock to cast mate Zachary Quinto. The rite of passage happened at Sunday's Grand Slam XVI Sci Fi Summit in Burbank, Calif., and came in the form of a T-shirt that said "No.1 Vulcan." "I think I'm going to have to grab a marker and change it to 'No. 2 Vulcan,'" a touched Quinto said to the audience. TV Guide later welcomed the opportunity to talk with the "two Spocks." — Carita Rizzo
TV Guide: Zachary, what kind of questions did you have for Leonard? Zachary Quinto: They came up as things evolved. The process that I went through to play this part was very internal and private, but in terms of what we're getting into today, I couldn't ask for a better introduction to the experience and to the fans than to engage in it with him here by my side. It's literally unbelievable.
TV Guide: Can the Star Trek life experience be described, Leonard? Leonard Nimoy: Not in a word. It's been a long, long road for me. I first got involved in 1964, about 44 years ago, and it's had the ups and downs of a very long relationship. There were times when it was fantastic, and there were times when it was dismal, painful. There have been times of struggle, times of questioning — What are we into and what should we do next? Should we do anything about this and why don't we just stop? And then suddenly there's a revival and it gets exciting again. It's a long and very, very interesting ride and now I really feel that I can let it go personally and watch it go off in a very good direction.
TV Guide: When J.J. approached you, what were your thoughts about reviving the character? [Nimoy and Quinto both portray Spock in the new film.] Nimoy: I was very flattered. I respect [Abrams] a lot. I respect his work. And he was very flattering with his thoughts about Star Trek and my involvement in it and what I might be able to contribute to the next film. We had a couple of exciting and very interesting meetings. He then sent me a script and it was unlike anything I had ever read before, Star Trek or otherwise. It was just so loaded with exciting ideas on a big scale and action and great characterizations. I said to him, "I think you've got the characters wonderfully, but I'd be lying to you if I said I understood everything I just read." We talked a little about my questions, about what was happening, and I signed on. Obviously I'm very glad I did, because I think it's going to be a great movie.
TV Guide: What do you think J.J. brings to Star Trek? Quinto: Everything. He brings his ability to execute his vision — which is basically unparalleled — a really generous spirit, a lot of respect for the people he works with and the people who work with him, a sense of humor and some mad beat-boxing skills. In between takes, actually.
TV Guide: Is this a crazy movie to promote, because of all the secrecy? Nimoy: There's always been an issue of trying to protect the secrecy of the next Star Trek movie, whichever one it was. There are people who make it their business to try to get their hands on the script and be able to say, "I got it and I can tell you what's happening." In this particular case it's been a very special effort on the part of those people to break through the security barrier, and as a result the security has been stronger than it ever has been before. Quinto: I think the speed with which people get their information now makes it more of a problem. The first day I shot the movie, before it was over J.J. came to me with his phone and showed me a picture that he had downloaded from the internet of us standing in the room that we were still shooting in. It was already on the Internet! That's actually what instigated the heightened security. The next day I showed up and we had floor-length vinyl jackets with hoods [to cover costumes] and golf carts that were completely enclosed in black tarp. That persisted through the entire shoot, even when we were on the lot at Paramount. People were worried about camera phones and digital cameras and it's understandable because there were a couple of times that a background actor or someone who was working on the crew would snap a couple of photos and they would inadvertently end up on the Internet, and that's just a headache for the legal departments. People think they want to know, but they don't want to know. It's going to ruin the experience for them.
TV Guide: I hear there's a storyline about the way Spock deals with being half-Vulcan/half-human...? Nimoy: We have dealt with aspects of that storyline before but never with quite the overview that this script has of the entire history of the character, the growth of the character, the beginnings of the character and the arrival of the character into the Enterprise crew. And there are wonderful people involved. Winona Ryder as Spock's mother is spectacular, Ben Cross as Spock's father is wonderful, and Zachary does great work as Spock. It's going to be a very exciting story overall.
TV Guide: Does it have more human interest aspects than the original TV series did? Are we digging deep into the characters? Quinto: That's another thing J.J. brings to the table and it's the way he re-imagined Mission Impossible III, by bringing in sides of the character you hadn't necessarily seen before. [Screenwriters] Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman have really embraced that idea. Leonard was searching for the word to describe how it's handled in this movie, the Vulcan/human interaction and the complexity of it. I thought there was a tremendous amount of grace that was used in that exploration, especially between [parents] Sarek and Amanda. They bring such a dignity to their perspectives, to their points of view of their characters. TV Guide: Lastly, Zachary, a question about Heroes. The finale left a sense that Sylar would be featured heavily in the new season. Did you get that sense? Quinto: I really have no sense of what's happening with the show in terms of the creative direction they're going to take us in. I have a lot of excitement about going back to work and seeing my friends after such a long time, and getting back into a territory that's really familiar and comfortable — especially after coming out of an experience that was so epic and affected my life so deeply and in so many ways. I'm open to whatever they throw at me. http://community.tvguide....usive-Star-Trek/800037574
