My Guantánamo Nightmare

About 90 prisoners have been cleared for transfer out of Guantánamo. Some of them are from countries like Syria or China — where they would face torture if sent home — or Yemen, which the United States considers unstable. And so they sit as captives, with no end in sight — not because they are dangerous, not because they attacked America, but because the stigma of Guantánamo means they have no place to go, and America will not give a home to even one of them.

 

Yes it’s long, but worth watching.

I used to have a blog a few years ago and I enjoyed it. I stopped doing it because I felt like I didn’t have anything I wanted to say at the time. I also felt like Facebook made blogging (for me) sort of pointless.

Lately I’ve been feeling like I want to quit Facebook. After I read that Goldman Sachs invested $450 million in Facebook, I kind of felt weird about being a part of Facebook. I probably should have felt weird about it before this, but this really made it disgusting. Am I alone in thinking GS (and other banks, investment firms etc) is the enemy of the people of this country and the world?

I mostly use Facebook to share articles and videos posted by numerous “pages” or groups that I’ve “liked.” I feel like I only keep in touch with a few people. I’d rather do that on my own website. I’m also looking into Diaspora. Not sure about that site yet.

I’ve also decided that I want to get back into recording again and I’ll probably talk about some of that here. I started a bit today and I feel like it’s fun again. I’m going to try a different approach this time and see how it turns out. And this time I’ll be playing bass instead of using samples. I’m starting out with my same difficult to use drum machine and will probably look into other software for that.

So that’s what’s going on right now. More later…
